Firehall / 消防署

＊だいぶ前に作っておいて、途中で止めてしまったページを見つけたので、思い切って途中ですがブログに載せます。
ダイジェストとして、いろいろ書くつもりが、1つ目の消防署見学で終わっています。これは、2011年の2月のことです。もう1年も前のことになります。
＊A while back I started working on this entry, but then set it aside half finished.  When I came across it recently I decided it would be better to upload it anyway as it was a memorable day.
I wanted to write about many things that happened in February last year, and our visit to a Fire Hall where Steve's friend works was one of the highlights.

１．消防署見学 A Visit to the Fire Hall
Steveの友達Luke（ルークさん）は消防士で、勤務先の消防署に見学にぜひ来ていいよ！と言われたので、2月の初頭に実際に見学に行きました！
Steve's friend Luke is a Firefighter and he invited us to come have a look at the Fire Hall where he works!  So, at the beginning of February, we took him up on his kind offer!

お決まりのこれ！消防服を着させてもらいました。重たいです。
I got to try on a fire fighter's protective gear.  It was quite heavy!

ツアー中に、実際にサイレンが鳴って、ルークさんは出動してしまいました。
・・・が、ラッキーにもすぐに消防車は帰ってこれたので、ツアーを再開できました！
In the middle of the tour the siren rang and Luke had to go out on a call.  Luckily, the fire truck returned soon after and we were able to resume with the tour!

特別に酸素マスクも実際に付けさせてもらいました。
基本的なルールとして、どんな小さな火事だとしても防護服と酸素ボンベは必ず着用するそうです。
全部合わせると重いので、私は歩くのがいっぱいいっぱいくらいになりました。
We also got to try on a fire fighter's oxygen mask.  As a basic rule, regardless of how small the fire might be they gear up and are prepared.  With all that gear on I think it would be hard for me to even walk.

事故処理を行うトラックに積んであるいろいろな機械を見せてもらいました。
全てが重たくて、何でも切れたり！、何でもこじ開けたり！・・・といったような特殊な事ができるそうです。
We were also shown all the tools they carry in the truck for dealing with car accidents.  They were all extremely heavy and heavy duty! We were told how they could cut through and open-up almost anything!    

また、消防士と言えば、招集がかかった時に使うこれ・・・！
And of course any real fire hall is gonna have....a pole!

実際に使うか聞くと、実際はほとんど使わないそうです。階段を使っても十分に早く移動ができるからだそうです。とはいえ、いつでも使えるようになっていました(^.^)

We got to give it a whirl.

私は慣れてないので、ズルズルズル・・・という感じでそんなに早く降りてこれませんでしたが、ルークさんがやると「シュッ！」と、ものの1秒くらいで降りて行かれました。そんなに早いなら、このポールも意味があるな・・・と私は個人的には思いました。

I wasn't so good at it and squeaked my way awkwardly down the pole, but when Luke went down -  woosh!! he was down in a flash!  I could see how this could be such a useful thing to have in a fire hall!

最後に、消防車／事故処理車の運転席に乗せてもらいました。

Finally, we got to check out the view behind the wheel of the fire truck!
