いよいよクリスマス！

今日はもうクリスマス・イヴです。
クリスマス25日はもう明日、本当に早いです！！
It's already Christmas Eve!! I can't believe tomorrow will be Christmas - it arrived so fast!!

こちらの街の様子はというと、クリスマスの飾りの電飾でいっぱいです。
日本と比べると（家の中と外両方）にクリスマスの飾り付けをする人が圧倒的に多いように思います。
The town is decorated with Christmas lights just about everywhere!  Compared to Japan there are a lot more people here who decorate their homes (both inside and outside) with a huge variety of lights!

その中でも、私が特に素敵だなぁと思ったことは、家の窓から見えるクリスマスツリーの飾りです。
家の前を通ると、多くの家の窓から大きなクリスマスツリーの電飾が見ることができますが、
偶然見えるのではなく、それをクリスマスツリーの見せ方の１つしているようです。
What I find to be especially lovely is when you can look at a house and see through a window a beautifully decorated Christmas tree inside.  When walking past houses, it is common to see Christmas trees inside full of lights and decorations that have been placed near the window so that it adds to the decorations both inside and outside the house.  

また、クリスマスツリーはこちらでは本物の木を使うのが伝統的です。
私たちも、本物の木のクリスマスツリーを買いました。
Also, its a common tradition here to use a real tree as a Christmas tree. 
So last week we went and bought a Christmas tree!
12月になると、多くのスーパーマーケットの駐車場の一角に『クリスマスツリー売り場』が設けられます。私たちはその中でもボーイスカウトが販売しているクリスマスツリーを買いました。
In December, Supermarket parking lots here and there will turn a corner section into a Christmas tree lot.  In keeping with Johnson family tradition, we made our way down to the one run by the Boy Scouts to buy a tree.

大きさによって値段が決まっています。自分の家のサイズに合うものを自分で選んで買います。
The price is based on the type of tree and its size.  People choose the type of tree prefer and one that will fit well inside their house.

私たちは家に１本、Karinaの家に１本、合計２本買いました！！
We picked out one for our house and one for Karina's house!

私たちは私の背より高い木を買いましたが、そこには小さい木もありましたが、小さくてこれです↓
The tree we picked out was even taller than us! But there were also tiny trees there, too...

さて、買った木をどうやって家に持って帰るかというと・・・こうです↓☟
So, how did we get these big trees home? Like this!

車の上に乗せてかえりました(^^)カナダではトラックに乗っている人もたーくさんいるので、12月にはいると、荷台にクリスマスツリーを乗せて走ってるトラックもよく見ました！

We tied the trees to the roof of the car!  A lot of people here have trucks so all through December it was common to see a truck with a tree thrown in the back to haul home.

飾り付けも楽しみの一つです(^^)特にスティーブの実家では、手作りの飾りがたーくさんあったり、海外に行った時に買った飾りもあって、飾りの１つ１つに意味があるのでおもしろいなぁと思いました。クリスマスツリーの飾りを作るのはよくある事だそうで、それもこちらに来て初めて分りました。

（ちなみに、この木は本物の木なので、毎日Howardさんが水をやっています。）

It was fun to decorate the tree!  Especially because Steve's family has so many hand-made decorations, ornaments bought during trips to other countries...each decoration had its own special story.  I never realized how popular it is to make Christmas decorations!

The last decorations we put up were red hearts with our initials stitched on them which Karina had made for everyone a few years ago

また、ハロウィーンの時と同じように、クリスマスの電飾ですごいという家が新聞に紹介してあったので、一昨日KarinaとSteveと見に行きました。

Just like back during Halloween, the local paper had a write-up about houses around the city that had, lets say, gotten more than just a little into the holiday spirit.  Steve and I set out with Karina to check-out the sights. 

まず初めに出発地点の私たちの家です☆

The first house we admired was the one we set out from: Steve's parents home.

次はご近所の飾りつけ☆

This is a house just down the street.

かわいいですねぇ。多くの家が上の２つのくらいの飾りです。

It's cute, isn't it!  The above two picture are a good example of the usual amount of lights and decorations most homes have up. 

しかし、新聞に載るくらいになるとこうなります↓↓↓

But, here are some shots of homes whose decorations make headlines!

住宅が15戸くらいある一角が全部ライトアップされている場所と、通り全体の家がクリスマスの飾りを40年も続けている２か所で撮った写真です。ほとんど全ての家がライトアップされているのでとてもキレイでした。見に行く価値ありでしたが、寒くて外に長くいれなかったので、全長１kmくらい（か以上）ある通りでしたが、ちょっとだけ歩いて、後は車で見て周りました☆
These are a mix of pictures of a group of houses here in town as well as a whole street of homes out in the city who work together to make their neighbourhood into a special attraction around Christmas time. It was definitely worth going to see but it was sooo cold out that we only walked around and saw about half of the houses.

上の2か所もキレイでしたが、最後に行った場所が一番すごかったです・・・！
1軒だけの飾りです！！これです！！！
The last place we went to see was by far the most impressive!
Unlike the pictures above where groups of homes combined to make an impressive display, this was all one single home!!!  Amazing!

外から見える窓の奥は全てクリスマスの物で飾られていました！！どこから見てもクリスマス！！
Through the window we could see that even the rooms inside were decorated in a Chistmas theme!

Here is a Chrstmas tree by the window, like I mentioned before.

この家については、人はどうも住んでないようで、亡くなった祖母の願いで子どもさんか孫さんが飾りつけを毎年しているよう感じでした。寄付の看板に詳細が書いてなかったので、はっきりとは分りませんでした。でも、今までに見た中で一番のクリスマスの飾りでした！！音楽が流れていて、おもちゃのサンタも踊っていて、これこそウィンターワンダーランドでした(^^)

We thought that no one lived at this house, but it turns out that it had been a Grandmother's house.  In memory of her passionate love for Christmas, her son decorated the house in her memory.  This was by far the most impressively decorated house we saw!  There was music playing, a dancing and singing robot Santa...it was truly a Winter Wonderland!!

さて、私たちはクリスマス・イヴの今夜はスティーブのおじさん・おばさんのおうちで夜ご飯を食べて、それから教会に行きます。私にとってはカナダでの2回目のクリスマスですが、この街では初めてです。どんなクリスマスになるか楽しみです(*^_^*)またその様子はブログで報告します☆

Tonight being Christmas eve, we will go have dinner at Steve's Aunt and Uncle's house and then we will join Steve's parents at their church.  This is my second Christmas in Canada, but it is my first Christmas in Steve's hometown.  It's going to be fun to see what kind of Christmas it will be!  I am sure there will be lots more to write about in my next blog!
